North from Vancouver, Driving the "Sea-to-Sky Highway" to Behold Magnificent Mountain & Sea Panoramas

2 days

For any visitor to Vancouver, a journey north along the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99 North) is an unmissable classic. This road winds between the Coast Mountains and the magnificent fjords of Howe Sound, with every turn potentially revealing breathtaking mountain and sea wonders. The following meticulously designed two-day itinerary will allow you to fully appreciate the essence of "one of Canada's most beautiful highways" and delve into the charming town of Squamish and the world-class resort of Whistler along the way. Each season offers different scenery, with summer and autumn providing the most pleasant weather and best visibility.

Day 1

Day's Itinerary: Vancouver → North along Sea-to-Sky Highway → Squamish (Sea to Sky Gondola) → Whistler

Depart from downtown Vancouver and head north onto the Sea-to-Sky Highway. It's recommended to make brief stops at suitable viewpoints along the way, such as the Horseshoe Bay Lookout or Shannon Falls Provincial Park, to get an initial feel for the highway's charm.

Continue onward to Squamish, known as the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada." The core experience here is riding the Sea to Sky Gondola. The gondola gently lifts visitors from the base to a summit elevation of 885 meters, offering stunning views of Howe Sound, surrounding snow-capped mountains, and the Squamish Valley from both the ride and the summit viewing platforms. The summit also features several hiking trails, a suspension bridge, and restaurants, where you can engage in activities and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, continue north along the Sea-to-Sky Highway for about 45 minutes to reach the world-renowned resort town of Whistler. This was one of the host venues for the 2010 Winter Olympics and is famous for its excellent ski facilities, beautiful natural scenery, and vibrant pedestrian village.

After checking in, take a leisurely stroll through Whistler Village, soaking in its unique European charm, browsing boutiques, or choosing one of its many restaurants for dinner.

Day 2

Day's Itinerary: Whistler (Peak 2 Peak Gondola/Lost Lake) → Return to Vancouver via Sea-to-Sky Highway

In the morning, Whistler offers a wealth of activity choices. If season and budget permit (usually operating in summer and winter), experiencing the Peak 2 Peak Gondola is highly recommended. This gondola connects the summits of Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain and is one of the world's highest and longest unsupported aerial ropeways. Riding it offers 360-degree views of magnificent alpine scenery – an unforgettable experience.

If you opt out of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola or prefer a more relaxed activity, you can take a walk or rent a bike to cycle around beautiful nearby lakes like Lost Lake. The lakeside scenery is picturesque and a great place to unwind.

In the afternoon, begin your return journey to Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. On the way back, you can once again admire scenery you might have missed on the way up or stop at previously unvisited viewpoints. Expect to arrive in Vancouver in the evening, concluding this "Sea-to-Sky Highway" journey filled with magnificent mountain and sea views and outdoor vibrancy.
